Edward Thomas Richard Jenyns was born on 7th February 1911 in London (Marylebone Q1-1911 1A:479), son of Roger Bulliver and Winifred Pike JENYNS (née PEASE) of Bottisham Hall. His father died in 1936, his mother in 1957, both at Bottisham Hall.

1911 census...None of the family have been found in this census

In the 1939 register his widowed mother Winifred P [7-1-1878] (President of S.S.A.F.A. Bottisham Petty Sessional Dvision) was at Bottisham Hall with 2 female companions and 6 servants. There is one closed record.

He married Joan Mary Moore Mcallen GILLSON (born in Devizes) at Quetta St Mary, Bengal, India (ref N-1-616: 84) on 2nd July 1942. She was the daughter of Lt. Col. Robert GILLSON, DSO. Newspaper cuttings at the time refer to daughter Sarah being born in Ootacamund, India on 15th May 1943 and another daughter on 24th December 1944 at Cheverells, Northam, Devon. The Jenyns family have owned Bottisham Hall or it's predecessor since around 1700.

The family presented a silver challice to the Church in his memory, inscribed "IN LOVING MEMORY OF 'TOM' CAPTAIN E. T. R. JENYNS, QUEENS ROYAL REGIMENT - BORN FEB. 7 1911. KILLED IN ACTION JUNE 15 1944 - FROM HIS WIFE 'JOAN' MOTHER AND TWO BROTHERS


The 1st battalion were in India when war broke out and fought in Burma, so Captain Jenyns must have transferred to the 6th battalion in time for the Normandy invasion. The 6th battalion was part of the 7th Armoured Division in Normandy, landing on D-Day +2. Having survived the epic victories of Obersturmfuhrer Michael Wittmann in his Tiger tank at Villers Bocage, the 1/6th were on the Livry road near Amaye-Sur-Seulles for the "Battle of the Box on 13th/14th June
